Hook, Line & Sinker grills the mechanics of deception and the ease with which narratives are manufactured and consumed. At its core, the work exposes the cynical laughter behind institutional lies, as if sharing a private joke at the public’s expense.
Deliberately crude and mocking, it is the tone of reminiscent of propaganda and disinformation campaigns and underscores the contempt for truth and passive acceptance. The work alludes to historical cover-ups and the reduction of systemic violence to isolated acts, a tactic that absolves power structures of accountability.
The minimal composition and heavy contrast evoke the aesthetics of underground print culture—zines, protest posters, and samizdat—signalling resistance while simultaneously critiquing the machinery of control. How much of what we believe is curated for us? And at what point do we stop laughing along?
